this page has been so helpfull. I just wished i knew this a few months ago. And i probably would still have my Tonka here with me. He was a 5 1/2 months old Spanish Mastiff. He was a male and so lovable.. I lost him 2 days ago and it was even more terrible because of all the blood that he expelled. I was in so much pain during those 2 days before he died. I feel terrible about the way he died, and i never in my life would of imagined that i would feel so much 4 a pet. As i was reading i found out that this terrible virus can be at the ground for up to 20 years that is horrible. Also it makes me think that maybe that is just the way that he got it. He began making holes on the ground but as it bothers me, because of the mess; i told myself that making holes is normal for dogs. after that wich he's never done before, he got sick. and 2 days later he died. He never left my home just on my minivan. so he didn't catch it for other dogs.. i don't know.. can you please include my area in your informations i live at Guayama, Puerto Rico 00784.

Parvovirus was first identified in 1977 and can infect dogs of all ages, but usually strikes young unvaccinated puppies under the age of 6 weeks. Most puppies acquire temporary parvo-destroying antibodies by ingesting them through their mother’s first milk, (colostrums). Puppies should be vaccinated starting at 6 to 9 weeks of age, and then every three weeks until they reach 16 weeks.
